Overview
This document provides information to the merchant about Click to Pay in relation to the Nuvei payment page (cashier) solution.
Click to Pay is the industry standard for digital ‘one-click’ checkout. Click to Pay replaces the manual task of entering a 16-digit card number. expiry date, and CVV via a secure, tokenized user-experience. Click to Pay evolves the physical swipe or tap to optimization for web and mobile browsers.
Key Benefits for the Merchant
- Reduced cart abandonment – The removal of manual data entry significantly lowers friction at the final stage of the funnel.
- Higher approval rates – A transaction is backed by tokenization, which typically results in a higher issuer-authorization rate compared with that of a standard ‘guest’ checkout.
- Enhanced security – Sensitive card data is replaced by a digital token, reducing the PCI compliance burden and protecting against fraud.
- Brand trust – Display of the Click to Pay icon signals to a customer that the site uses the latest secure-payment technology.
Integration
To enable Click to Pay on the checkout page, contact the Nuvei Integration Team which handles the registration process on your behalf with Mastercard and configures the merchant profile. After the feature is enabled for your account, the Click to Pay user-interface elements are automatically displayed to each eligible customer on your payment page.
Transaction Flows
The transaction flow displayed to the customer depends on whether the customer has used Click to Pay before or is using a new device.
First-Time User Transaction Flow
The first-time user transaction flow is used when a customer does not have an existing Click to Pay profile or is using a card brand that is not enrolled in the service.
- The user, as ‘Guest’, manually enters the card details.
If payment is successful, an invitation to enroll in Click to Pay is displayed to the user. - The user enrolls.
By opting in, the user card and shipping details are securely saved for future use globally by any merchant that supports Click to Pay.
Returning User (Unrecognized) Transaction Flow
The returning user (unrecognized) transaction flow applies to a user who has a Click to Pay profile but is visiting the merchant site from a new device, a different browser, or has recently cleared cookies.
- Because the system does not immediately recognize the user device, the user is prompted to enter the registered email address.
A ‘lookup’ is triggered - Following identity verification, usually performed via a one-time password sent to the user phone or user email, any saved cards are retrieved and displayed for possible selection.
Recognized User Transaction Flow
The recognized user transaction is the ‘gold standard’ for the checkout experience since the flow provides minimal friction.
- The user is automatically recognized via a device ‘cookie’ or digital fingerprint. The saved cards of the user are displayed as masked in the payment section. The user confirms which card to use and completes the purchase with a single click without having to provide any additional password or data.
